Here is the proper reset code sequence to reset DCP printers without numeric keypad:

This instruction is also applicable to printer model: Brother DCP 110C, 115C, 120C, 130C, 135C, 145C, 150C, 165C, 185C

1. Press the Menu, then Mono Start key then press the UP arrow key 4 times to make the machine enter the maintenance mode and "ERROR 46" pops-up in the display.

2. Enter maintenance mode 80: Select 8 by pressing the UP/DOWN arrow key and push OK key and select 0 and push OK key

3. Now Press MONO arrow key several times until you see PURGE:XXXXX

4. Select 2 and push OK, Select 7 and push OK, 8 and push OK, select 3 and push OK and the purge counter is now reset to 00000.

5. Press STOP/EXIT key to go to root of maintenance mode

6. Enter code 99 to exit maintenance mode: Select 9 and push OK, Select 9 and push OK

1) Press the following keys in sequence: Copy-Menu-Scan-Copy-Scan.
The display will say:

2) Press the V key six times.
The display will say:

3) Press OK.
The display will say:

4) Press the V key four times.

Backup / Restore XP Activation

When you activate Windows XP, Microsoft stores the data in the Windows Product Activation database files wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak in the folder %systemroot%\system32. If you change the motherboard or make significant hardware changes, XP will require you to reactive. But if you plan to reinstall XP on the same hardware, you can back up the activation status and then restore it after you reinstall and avoid the activation process. You can backup the Windows Product Activation database files to diskette. They are very small. A directory listing from my XP Pro workstation:

After you reinstall XP, to restore the Windows Product Activation database files:

Start XP to Minimal Safe mode
Change directory to the \%systemroot%\system32 folder
Rename the newly created wpa.dbl to wpa.nonactivated and wpa.bak, if it exists, to wpabak.nonactivated.
Copy your backed up wpa.dbl and wpb.bak files to the system32 folder
Reboot

This should work if you want to avoid activating XP after a reinstall or restore on the same or very similar hardware. It will not work if the hardware is significantly different from that in place when the Windows Product Activation database files were created. This is not a hack to avoid activating installations.

And if you are able to open then at the command Prompt type the following

oobe/msoobe /a or Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Activate Windows.

According to the sources Microsoft’s Windows 8 second Milestone build has been finalized, with Milestone 3 the next to be worked on. After that stage it’s only a matter of time before we see a beta of Windows 8 in testing.

Microsoft compiled 6.2.7947.0.winmain_win8m2_escrow.110218-1608 on Friday after pushing out a number of Windows 8 builds recently. Things are moving along nicely behind closed doors, and versions of the OS will soon be allowed out to Microsoft’s trusted partners for testing. The kernel of the 32-bit version of Windows 7 has only a lock, which prevents access to more memory. More dramatically is this lock in the 32-bit version

The Russian Programmers Group "staforce" has written a small program witch removes the lock in the kernel of the 32-bit version of Windows 7. "ICE Technologie" has translate this program into English. The program automatically makes a copy of the kernel file "ntkrnlpa.exe" and saves the copy as separate file "ntkrlICE.exe". Then the program removes the lock in the copied file "ntkrlICE.exe" and integrates the new kernel file as an extra boot menu entry in the Windows 7 boot menu. So then you have the option to start Windows 7 either as usual with the original kernel file "ntkrnlpa.exe" or with the modified kernel file "ntkrlICE.exe".

The text that appears in the boot menu can be found under "description".
"testsigning = Yes" allows the patched kernel to start despite modification.
The copied and modified kernel is called "ntkrlICE.exe".
With "pae = ForceEnable" the address extension for the RAM is activated.

Asus Laptop: Webcam Upside Down/Inverted after Installing Windows 7

Problem: After installing Windows 7 on an Asus laptop, the built in camera output is upside down / inverted.

Reason: This is a well known problem with Asus laptop. It seems that the generic camera driver in Windows 7 is not compatible with Asus' camera. I have here an Asus K501J series laptop and when I view my camera in Yahoo Messenger, the output is upside down.

Solution: Download the updated driver from Asus support site. Search for your laptop model, and try every camera driver listed. There are usually 4 camera drivers listed/available. So, if the first did not work, try the next one.

Solution 2: Edit Windows Registry. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sunplus SPUVCb\VIDEOPROCAMP. Change VFlip value to 1.

Solution 3: If you're having problems in downloading your webcam driver, download and install ManyCam. This program is free and can flip and rotate your camera output. Also works with Gtalk, Skype, and other programs.

Problem:

After refilling the cartridge of your Canon MP198 / MP190 printer, there is still an error that says your colored or black cartridge is still empty.

Solution:

This is a common problem when you refill the ink cartridge of you canon printer. You can bypass this problem by pressing the Stop/Reset button on bottom right hand side of the printer for about 5 seconds until the display reads 1 again. This will bypass the ink level sensor but your machine won't know how much ink left in the tank. It's not a problem though because it will let you print. Do this everytime you refill your ink cartridge.

Partition a USB Flash Drive in Windows XP

One way to Partition a USB Flash Drive from Windows XP and mark it active "bootable". Windows detects Flash Drives as "Removable Disks" and flash drives are typically shipped formatted as a "Super Floppy" (USB-FDD without a partition table) . The Windows built in format utility cannot create a partition table on Removable Disks. Furthermore, the diskpart utility in Windows XP will not allow you to partition Removable Media, although diskpart does work for partitioning a Flash Drive from Windows Vista/7.

To address the inability to Partition a Flash Drive in Windows XP, you need to use a third party low level partitioning tool such as BOOTICE, created by Pauly. BOOTICE Home Page

Note: I partition my flash drives as USB-HDD (with a partition table), simply because my computers support booting from Flash Drives formatted to be seen as a USB Hard Disk.

One way to Partition a Flash Drive from Windows

Download BOOTICE, unzip, and run BOOTICE.EXE
Make sure your "USB Flash Drive" is set as the Destination Disk
Click Parts Manage
Click ReFormat USB Disk
Select USB-HDD mode, and click Next
Select Format as Fat32, and click OK

You should now have an active "bootable" USB-HDD Fat32 formatted Flash Drive, containing a partition table with a single partition. You should be able to Boot It as a Hard Drive.

In the following simple solution, I'll show you How to Fix a Stuck Pixel on an LCD monitor. A stuck pixel differs from a dead pixel in that, in most cases, a stuck pixel can be fixed while a dead pixel cannot be fixed. A dead pixel will generally appear as a black dot that does not change color, while a stuck pixel may appear white or any other color. There are a couple of approaches to fixing a stuck pixel. One approach is the pressure method. Another approach is via visual software using quick transitioning colors.

How to test an LCD for Dead or Struck Pixels:

Download the Dead Pixel Buddy and run the software
Follow the onscreen instructions to test for dead or stuck pixels

If the test reveals a colored dot on the black screen, you have a stuck pixel. If the suspicious dot does not appear on the black screen, but does appear on all other colored screens, you have a dead pixel.

Fixing a Stuck LCD Pixel Software Method:

Download the Fix Dead Pixels tool (don't know why it is named this as you can only fix stuck pixels)
Extract the contents and open the M4V56052.Mp4 file
The Mp4 video file randomly and quickly changes background colors in an attempt to activate the stuck pixel. It's best to simply resize the video window to affect just the area of the stuck pixel. I use quicktime to play the file in a loop

Turn your LCD monitor off
Locate a soft cloth and a ballpoint pen or other tool with a dull point. ( a stylus works well)
Using the cloth to avoid scratching or damaging the screen, apply pressure using the pen or stylus to the stuck pixel
With pressure still applied, turn your LCD monitor on
Remove pressure and if your lucky, the stuck pixel will be gone

Fixing a Stuck LCD Pixel Tap Method:

This method works by attempting to spread liquid from the liquid crystal into the stuck pixel via the use of shock.

Turn your LCD monitor on
Set your desktop background color to black
Locate a rounded slightly pointed object (a marker cap works well)
Using the rounded slightly pointed object, gently tap the stuck pixel

Be careful when attempting to clean a Laptop screen or LCD monitor as there are many chemicals that can damage the finish of a Laptop screen or LCD monitor. In addition, you should ensure that the fabric used in conjunction with the chemical is not too abrasive or harsh or you risk scratching the screen surface. In the following simple solution, I will show you what I personally use to clean my LCD screens.

Chemicals to use to clean a Laptop Screen:

DO NOT USE: Rubbing alcohol in any concentration

Although it has been mentioned that 91% pure alcohol is safe for LCD monitor cleaning, I strongly suggest avoiding it. There are many different plastic protective surfaces used on the market and some are NOT tolerant of alcohol. In addition, it can extensively dry out the surface and cause other issues down the road.

DO NOT USE: Windex or other ammonia based products

Ammonia will, over time, gradually eat away at the composition of the screen causing it to become brittle, yellow and eventually crack.

DO USE: Water for mild cleaning and dust removal

DO USE: 50% water and 50% vinegar mixture

A vinegar and water mixture can be used to remove water spots, pop stains, splashes and streaks and smudges from your flat screen without doing harm to the surface.

Tip: Some eyeglass cleaning kits use a vinegar/water solution.

Fabric to use to clean a Laptop Screen:

DO NOT USE: Newspaper, tissue paper or toilet paper

Newspaper, tissue paper and toilet paper contain wood fibers that can easily scratch the surface.

DO USE: Microfiber cloths

Microfiber cloths are typically included with new laptops. They are also commonly used to clean eye glasses and are safe to use on a Laptop or LCD screen surface.

Cleaning a Laptop or LCD Screen:

Find a Microfiber cloth to use for cleaning
Gently wipe the screen surface clean using the microfiber cloth
Mix 1 part of water to 1 part of vinegar in a spray bottle

1. Download Office 2010 language pack from here. Office 2010 language packs are available for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Make sure that you have downloaded the right language pack before installing the pack.

2. Double-click on the downloaded file and click continue for the UAC prompt.

3. In the next screen, you will asked to select a Microsoft Office product. Select Microsoft Office 2010 language pack from the list and click Continue button to see the license agreement screen.

4. Accept the license agreement, click Continue button.

How to make Windows XP start faster [TWEAKS]

How to make Windows XP start faster: [TWEAKS]

1. Click on “Start” on the taskbar.

2. Click “Run” located in the start menu.

3. Then in the “Run” panel, type: “regedit” without the quotation marks. (that will open up the Windows registry editor)

4. Then click on “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” and expand it.

5. Then click on “SYSTEM” and expand it.

6. Then scroll down, and expand “CurrentControlSet”.

7. Under that, expand “Control”.

8. Then, under that one, locate and click on “ContentIndex”. (so when you click on it, it needs to be highlighted and it’s options need to show up in the right panel of Windows XP Registry Editor)

So to sum up, here’s where you need to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ ContentIndex

Let’s continue… You have just 6 more steps until the finish line!

9. When you have clicked on “ContentIndex” and it is highlighted and you see the options and parameters on the right side of the panel… Among those, you need to scroll all the way to the bottom and find the Registry key named “StartupDelay”.

10. Double-click on it and a new window panel will pop-up.

12. The new window has a field to enter value (and a default value entered already). But before you change the value, you need to change the base from Hexadecimal to Decimal. Take a look at the screenshot below to see what I am talking about:

Now when you change it to Decimal, it displays a different value (480000 instead of 75300).

13. So now, all you need to do is change the value from “480000” to “40000” (forty thousand)

Many people ask me if they can change it to an even smaller value than 40000, but I would not recommend doing that. I tested it and it doesn’t work. I did not feel any difference in boot-up time when I change it to value less than 40000 (and no, you can’t put 0 either).

14. After you’ve completed all the steps above, click “OK” and close the Registry Editor.

And one just one little thing you need to do to finish all this registry tweaking…

15. Restart your computer.

Reduce the amount of RAM Firefox uses for it’s cache feature

Here’s how to do it:
1. Type “about:config” (no quotes) in the adress bar in the browser.
2. Find “browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewer”
3. Set it’s value to “0“;(Zero)

Increase the Speed in Which Firefox loads pages

1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit Enter.
(Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.)

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 10.

This means it will make 10 requests at once.

3. Lastly, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0“;.(Zero)

One of the most common and also the easiest methods to spread virus to a particular computer is none other than using the USB drive. When you insert an infected USB drive to a computer, the virus or malware that resides in the USB drive will automatically launch itself using the autorun method. I believe that you don’t want the virus to get into your computer and harms your system, right? So what should you do?

No Autorun is a lightweight portable Window application that blocks virus in USB flash drive from auto-running, thus prevents the virus from doing damage to your computer system.

No Autorun works as background process. It sits at the system tray, waiting for USB flash drive insertion. When a USB flash drive is plugged into your computer, this application will detect and lock suspicious files in the USB drive, such as the autorun.inf file, all the autorun-related virus and other related executable files.

The screenshot below shown the main window of No Autorun. All the suspicious files will be listed under the Locked Suspicious Files. You are not seeing one in the screenshot because I can’t find any of my USB flash drives with virus inside.

To delete the suspicious files, simply click the “Delete Autorun Files” or “Delete All” button. And you can only delete the locked suspicious files from there, so please do not try to delete them from Windows explorer or elsewhere because trust me, you are not able to delete the files. If you want to open one of these files, just open the main window, select the file and push the “Unlock” button.

If somehow you can’t determine that whether the suspicious files are virus or not, just leave them there. The files is in locked condition them so that they can’t be executed and harm your computer.

In addition, this application comes with the ”USB disk soft write protect” function. When this option is enabled, any newly connected USB flash drive will become read-only for your computer. It’s useful when your PC is already infected, and you don’t want to spread the virus to the USB drive.

1.Let your PC boot up completely before opening any applications.

2.Refresh the desktop after closing any application. This will remove any unused files from the RAM.

4.Do not clutter your Desktop with a lot of shortcuts. Each shortcut on the desktop uses up to 500 bytes of RAM

5.Empty the recycle bin regularly. The files are not really deleted from your hard drive until you empty the recycle bin.

6.Delete the temporary internet files regularly.

7.Defragment your hard drive once every two months. This will free up a lot of space on your hard drive and rearrange the files so that your applications run faster.

8.Always make two partitions in your hard drive. Install all large Softwares (like PSP, Photoshop, 3DS Max etc) in the second partition. Windows uses all the available empty space in C drive as virtual memory when your Computer RAM is full. Keep the C Drive as empty as possible.

9.When installing new Softwares disable the option of having a tray icon. The tray icons use up available RAM, and also slow down the booting of your PC. Also disable the option of starting the application automatically when the PC boots. You can disable these options later on also from the Tools or preferences menu in your application.

10. Protect your PC from dust. Dust causes the CPU cooling fan to jam and slow down thereby gradually heating your CPU and affecting the processing speed. Use compressed air to blow out any dust from the CPU. Never use vacuum.

My Optical Drive has disappeared and the device is not showed up in windows. I opened the Device Manager, went down to DVD/CD Rom Drive and there it is a yellow triangle with exclamation point on it, you might see that error code displayed in the Device Manager.

Error code 39 is another one of those annoying errors that seem hard to fix, but generally isn’t all that difficult once you know what you are looking for. Follow the instructions and reboot the computer.

Dont 'panic and this will FIX it.. (this will fit on Both XP, Vista and 7)

1. Click on START button, the click on RUN.
2. Enter REGEDIT and press Enter.
3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following key:

For battery meter calibration, periodically do a full battery discharge, every 30 charges, to increase meter accuracy.

The Rechargeable undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long time. So it is necessary to recharge the battery after a storage period.

When charging battery for the first time your computer may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Simply remove the battery from the computer and repeat the charging procedure.

Charge up completely, even if the battery isn't fully discharged, don’t run out of your Laptop Battery. Li-ion laptop batteries work best when they are recharged while they still have 10 to 20% capacity remaining. So if you are using your notebook battery on your journey, try not to get in the habit of using the notebook battery until it has almost no charge.

Recharge the battery in your notebook using the AC adapter, whether the notebook is on or off, with the right Voltage and Compatible Ampere.

Avoid heat, heat is the enemy, the temperature in a car can easily rise 50F in a single hour, in some cases reaching 140F.

If you plan to place your battery for storage, be sure to have the charge at 40% and stored in the fridge (not freezer) for maximum battery longevity.

Yes it would work but it would down clock it to 667Mhz.

Regarding the RAM, if your motherboard supports a maximum of 667MHZ and you buy one that is 800MHZ, the RAM will be lowered to the speed that it can handle or to the weakest link in the system (in this case, the RAM). So, yes, the 800MHZ RAM will slow down to a speed of 667.

A nice little tweak for XP. M*crosoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)

Here's how to get it back:

Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "

This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:

Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :

"By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."

So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.

In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.

Acer 5720 is a laptop, the CMOS information is stored in eeprom and not in the battery, so you need to flash or change the eeprom.

if you think this solution is very tricky, you can jump the 2 cables to the small battery or use a Tweezers to have a closed circuit and release the energy.

Remove the battery and to the power cord. Remove the two screws that secure the keyboard.
After removing the keyboard, remove the battery "RTC" to stop providing energy to epprom BIOS.
After the upgrade or downgrade, or any repair, leave the Laptop for 5 minutes, without any source of energy.

Disconnect the power cord, without battery and without the battery "RTC" of the Bios. Leave it withih 5-30 minutes and Re-reassembly everything and the RESET is done.

I have found the Key to resetting the power on password. Although I will not take credit for producing this bit of information, I will take credit for passing it along to you. Understand, you do these repairs at your own risk.

Toshiba Satellite A100 and the A105 will install a POP (Power-On-Password) at most any time that the unit is shut down and turned on. Toshiba is aware of the problem and last I heard will fix the problem for free. Problem is you must send the thing in to them and do with out it while they do the repair. This ten min. repair may take them over a week and you're stuck with out your laptop.

1) If you are lucky and haven't had the problem yet, up grade your BIOS ASAP. The lasts upgrade corrects the problem.

2) If it has happened to you and you think you're stuck with a brick, Good news. You can fix this by removing first removing all power, then remove the plastic cover above the keyboard, removing removing the two keyboard screws. You'll need to fold the keyboard in such a way that you don't damage the cable. You will see the wireless card just to the right. it's the only card there. It is held in place by spring clips. Remove the card from the connector. There are two solder contact points labeled "C88". Connect the power adapter to the laptop now. Short the two contact of "C88" and press the power on button. The unit should boot to the windows screen. Once it boots, you'll have to update the BIOS.

i've tried to Reformat it again and install the compatible Drivers from the Acer site but nothing changed.

1. You notice a small patch of screen is permanently white, most noticeable on black.
2. Same as #1, but it's black and noticeable on white.
3. An area of monitor screen is somewhat darker, or an outline of an image can be seen on the screen

Description

A stuck pixel is a common defect in any LCD monitor. LCD pixels are sub-divided into three sub-pixels: Red, Green and Blue (RGB) (some monitors use BGR, but this is rare). stuck pixels occur when, for whatever reason, a particular sub-pixel continuously fires as long as the monitor is on. When in any color, it can be hard to see a stuck pixel because it blends with the other colors. However, when exposed to black, the stuck pixel is easy to notice.

Dead pixels are another defect, but with the opposite effect. The pixel in question remains unlit. Dead pixels are easily noticed on white or other light colors. It cannot be seen on dark colors.

LCD burn-in, perhaps the most noticeable, is when an area of pixels is either a little darker than the rest of the screen, or there is an image burned into the monitor.

Possible solution to problems 1 & 3

There is a handy tool called JScreenFix, found at http://www.jscreenfix.com/. It's a neat little Java applet that continually fires random RGB pixels to stimulate the region. An excerpt from their FAQ:

JScreenFix re-energises stuck pixels on LCD screens and removes burn-in from plasma screens by randomly switching on and off red, green and blue colour cells very rapidly. The time between on and off is random which helps bring stuck pixels back to life through resonance and repetition.

The site owners claim they can fix 65% of stuck pixels. No figure for burn-in.

This is not a guaranteed solution, but it can help and should be tried first; it's free, after all.

There is no cure for dead pixels, however, and CRT monitors are out of luck; different technology entirely.

1: Extract the .ZIP

2: Rename the Bios name from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd

3: Copy zg5ia32.fd and Flashit.exe to USB flash drive.

4:
- Make sure the power cable is in!
- The laptop is turned OFF!
- Plug the USB stick in!

Press and HOLD down
the FN and ESC key
TOGETHER

Then press the power
button, Whilst holding
the buttons!

Release the power button
and continue holding
FN and ESC for about 5
seconds.

Release the buttons
and the power light
will start to blink.

Let the laptop run and
DO NOT press anything
This can take upto 7 mins

When it's done the laptop
will restart.

It should now work :D

hi there doyou have the same problem on this Acer Model. Black out and only a Beeping sounds, if you have 1 long and 2 short beeps that's a chipset problem but if you have just led power light that's the confusion of the OS system then remove the battery and the power cable and hold the power button for about 60 seconds and then put back the battery back and you notebook be OK!

I got this problem when a costumer noticed it has a hibernation problem. It goes to sleep for no reason, even it is in use. Reconfigure it and tweaking ALL the power settings but still it goes to sleep for no reason. Acer release a New version of BIOS update for this Model.

2. Windows flash: Please click "ZH6_3110_Win.exe" to update bios.

Things to Remember:

Make sure the electrical power source is reliable when flashing a BIOS. Any sizable fluctuation or loss of power during a flash process can corrupt the BIOS. 1. Remove main AC power and Battery

2. Remove the keyboard. (2 silver colored screws on the bottom, Torx T8)

3. Pull the 4 tabs that hold the keyboard in place towards you. (small tabs between the function keys)

4. Lift the keyboard.

5. Locate the litte cable that goes from Cmos battery to mainboard. The leads from the battery colors black & red wires run up the motherboard and plug in next to the ribbon cable for the touchpad.

Remove the connector from mainboard.

5. Wait for about 30 min or onward and reconnect.

6. Power up with AC power, NOT with Laptop battery in it.

Password will be gone.

REMEMBER THIS!

In my case i made it a whole day before i reconnect all of the parts.

Make sure that the Laptop Battery is Detached before turning it On.
